The past 8th of May, the team Scott Cala Bandida came back to the Scott Marathon in their second time at the Navas del Marques (Avila). A challenge from the UCI C2 category, that went along the surroundings of the valley of Alberche below the mountains of Gredos.
Francesc Guerra and José Mari Sánchez were the ones in charge of representing the team at the race. Whom, after being around two months recovering from their injuries, finally came back to compete.
The Challenge, took place along the municipalities of San Bartolome of Pinares, Navalperal de Pinares, Hoyo de Pinares, Santa María de la Alameda and Peguerinos. It consisted of track of cross country marathon (XCM) of 78 kilometers and 2120 meters of positive unevenness with a start at 9am.
The leaders of the Scott Marathon, in this case, needed to start the race with the maillots from #gsportcustom that identify them as what they are. The ones carrying them, Guillem Cassú (BUFF-Megamo) and Estefanía Gutiérrez (Cares Deva), winners from the first edition of the Scott Marathon BTT in Cambrils.
Guerra, after having technical issues at the beginning, after a huge come back and a very even race, he was able to secure a 2nd spot which was decided in the final sprint, completing the route in 3 hours and 29 minutes, with the exact same time as the winner of the race Juan Ignacio Perez.
This was the way Francesc showed his return to the competition and that his recovery had been completed which he need to keep competing in races, until the ending of the season.
On another end Jose Maria Sanchez he made a huge effort, but he wasn’t able to find any good sensations to be able to be at the level he would like to be, this is why he decided to retire from this race.
