Sergio mantecon ganador XCM España 2023

A strong cold, 83 km of travel, 2,200 meters of positive elevation gain and 3 and a half hours of racing, were no match. Sergio Mantecón, SCOTT CALA BANDIDA, is proclaimed champion of Spain XCM again.

On May 21, the national mountain marathon (XCM) 2023 was held, in which the team SCOTT CALA BANDIDA managed to maintain his victory from last year. Sergio Mantecón repeated history again, proclaiming himself Champion of Spain XCM, one more year.

If this victory wasn't enough... the rest of the bandits left very good results in the championship. Jose Mari Sánchez entered the top 10 with a sixth position, Guerrilla closing the top 10 and Miquel, with his first championship in the team, finishing in fifteenth position.

Winning was one of his goals since the beginning of the year. Weeks before the start of the championship, the team had already studied and reconnoitered the terrain to prepare a strategy. Sergio, Jose Mari and Guerrilla stayed together for most of the race, until Mantecón visualized the perfect moment to create an attack, with 5 kilometers from the end.

A decisive attack in the race, since, executed to perfection by the entire team, he managed to take them to the podium and proclaimed them two-time champion.

"I am super happy to have been able to retain the title. For me, and for the team, it was one of the objectives of the year and we have achieved it. This is thanks to the work behind it, we have been working hard all week recognizing the terrain. It hasn't been an easy race, we've had a pretty tough week since I've had a bad cold, but we've left very motivated and we've gone for it all. Each rider has played their cards and luckily I was able to finish off the job and get the title- Sergio Mantecón.
