The Dutch cyclists, Wouter Poels, from the team Bahrain-Victorious, achieves the goal of winning the 68th edition of the “Vuelta ciclista a Andalucia”, performing a great performance during the 5 days of racing.
The Ruta del Sol 2022, race from the category UCI Pro Series, which takes place from the 16th until the 20th of February, the race had a total of 154 cyclists that came from 22 different teams, twelve of these World tour category and ten Pro Continental.
The race started at Ubrique and finished in Chiclana (Jaén), with a total of 838.6km, which were finished by 108 of the 154 people that started the race.
Wouter Poels, who is 34 years old, as the fastest of the group, he completed the race in 20:51:27, followed by Cristian Rodríguez (Total Energies) he was away by 0:14” and by Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) by 0:15” completing the podium.
He was backed by his teammates, who took control of the whole race doing a great job by helping him to secure the victory. Thanks to this, he was able to win his second race by stages, and remembering that previously he had gotten a 2nd place on this exact competition
He was able to take the victory home on the 4th stage, by going ahead of Alexey Lutsenko, after an escaper 15km before the finish line, which finished in a sprint, finishing the 166km in less than four hours, which passed from Cullar Vega until getting to the finish line at Baza.
In the last stage he was able to mantain his position as the leader, after the end in Chiclana de Segura, with Lennard Kämna as the winner of the 5th stage, finishing 15th ahead of his closest rivals Cristian Rodriguez and Miquel Angel Lopez, going 0:02” and 0:05” ahead respectively.
Wouter Poels, brought for the first time the win of the Vuelta de ciclista a Andalucia to the Dutch, a Dutch win hasn’t happened since 2009, with the runner Joost Postuma, from the team Rabobank in that year which was the 55th edition of the competition.
