The International Chelva XCO was shown in an explosive track where the best racers in the MTB world faced off in front of a big crowd of fans. The result of this was a huge spectale.
The past 19th and 20th of February the International XCO Chelva Gsport Challenge where held, the start of the high level XCO season had an incredible start with racers such as: Henrique Avancini, Vlad Dascalu, David Valero, Evie Richards, Jolanda Neff y Pauline Ferrand Prevot.
This UCI race with category C1 has become a benchmark worldwide in the pre-season XCO. World Champions, Gold Medalists and the best racers from the XCO World Cup know that this competition is a must to prepare for the season.
In the male modality the amount of favorites was huge. From the team Cannondale Factory Racing we had racers such as: Henrique Avancini, Simon Andreassen, Alan Hatherly. Racing for Trek Factory Racing we had, Vlad Dascalu, the Czech Ondrej Cink from team Kross and the current Spain national champion and Olympic bronze medalist, David Valero.
In the end the one who took the first place home was the South African Alan Hatherly. “I am very happy starting my XCO season with a first place in Chelva. It has been a fast race since the beginning, I saw the opportunity to take advantage over other competitors and I took it. It was great to have the fans that we had today, the way they were cheering all of us during the race was unreal. This place is amazing and I hope to come back again.”
The female race also had a high level thanks to the presence of the world champion, the British Evie Richards and the actual Olympic champion, the Swiss Jolanda Neff, both of them are partners in the Trek Factory Racing team. There were also some other great racers such as: the Swiss Linda Infergand, the French Paulina Ferrand Prevot, the Ukrainian Yana Belomoina or the actual Spain national champion, Rocio del Alba de García.
After an intense race the one who took he victory home was Jolanda Neff who showed everyone that her physique was in a class of her own among the others in the Chelva 2022. “I am really happy with today’s race, it was quite hard but I managed to get through it and take the victory home. This track is beautiful I came here 4 years ago and I only have good memories here. Last time I came here I started leading since the beginning and won, but today even though I won it was totally different, it was a great experience, I am very happy.”
We are looking forward to see what International Chelva XCO will prepare for us next year!
