When it got to our ears that our friend Ibai Fradejas was planning IV Lands we knew that it would be our summer adventure. One of those adventures that make you see and appreciate life in a different way.
“I have the natural necessity of exploring, discovering… and what better way of doing it than by bike. Sharing this routes so that the rest see and feel cycling as I do, I am passionate about it. This is how the idea of organizing an adventure with friends, people you know or you don’t know originated. This is how IV LANDS was created. The exploration and good vibes were the base, far away from the competitive aspect, we looked to do something different by creating bonds and a community.”
IV LANDS started as a GRAVEL experience that lasted three days going through four territories, 300km and 5.000m of slope of roads and track, this places have been transited for ages by pilgrims and travelers. Beginning in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the idea was to ride on some of the most beautiful gravel tracks going through four provinces: Alava, Castilla Leon, La Rioja and Navarra, that’s why it’s named IV Lands (four regions). A perfect scenery to offer a close encounter and surprise with a different route, all of this with the objective of enjoying this passionate life style.
Two possibilities to spend the night, sleeping in a hotel or sleeping in a camping tent, independently, it was required to be self-sufficient and carry things on one's back. Clothing for the three days, water, some food, the tools and everything needed to camp.
"Three days to get together and roll through 4 territories, forests, secondary roads, mountains, vineyards, tracks between fields, go up to touch the sky, go down, zigzag along the banks of the Ebro, cross canyons, roll along an old railway line ... What more could you ask for?" Ibai told us with a smile... and that's how this adventure began.
What a better place to start than a place that shares and promote “the cycling culture”. A place where it smells like fresh coffee and you can eat the best cheesecake, this is only one of many delicious foods they offer… not only did @amattercoffee welcome us to kick off this experience, but accompanied us throughout the days with supplies and the coldest beer when it was most needed.

It is difficult to create an event where all king of people fit, people with a hat, metal bikes, carbon fiber bikes, people going ultralight leaving their stuff at the hotels, people with a 30kg bike being completely self-sufficient, maillots with the best lycras, handmade T-shirts stitched by an African tailor, shoes with a hard sole made by carbon fiber, sandals, corcs… or maybe… is not as hard as it looks?
