EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CYCLOCROSS

Todo lo que necesitas saber sobre ciclocrós

Cyclocross or CX is a cycling discipline that consists of constantly overcoming obstacles such as stairs, planks, logs... so it uses, in a more abrupt way, some muscles that we do not tend to use in colloquial cycling, in which it is not necessary to get on and off the bike constantly.

It is a very popular winter discipline in the Netherlands and Belgium but there are more and more races of this winter modality all over the world. The number of laps to the circuits prepared by the organization will depend on the age category.

Here we tell you everything you need to start your cyclocross journey.

TIPS TO START PRACTICING CX:

  • It is very important to keep in mind that the races are very short and explosive, so we recommend practicing this explosiveness beforehand.
  • It is also very important to reach the obstacles with speed and learn to jump on and off the bike without losing speed or braking too much. To overcome the obstacle, we must "put the bike on our shoulder" so that it does not bother us when running, climbing stairs or others.
  • Wear suitable clothing for this modality, with sufficiently tight clothing so that when getting on and off the bicycle, it does not get caught in the saddle.
  • Another thing to keep in mind is cornering. In a cyclo-cross circuit where each route is between 2 and 3 km, it is important that we learn how to corner, as well as the trajectory we must take to overcome this obstacle in the most efficient way possible.
  • Last but not least, the sandy or muddy sections. These sections are very common in all CX circuits. Depending on the area or country where it is, we will find one thing or another. Generally you have to hold the handlebars very tightly and try not to turn while passing the sandpit and do not stop pedaling so that the bike does not stop in the middle.
